I rode the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) in 2006. The first day of the adventure was driving from home in Ohio to catch the shuttle in Waterloo, Iowa:

Today I rode in The Dirty Dozen, a 50-mile bicycle stage race over the 13 steepest hills in Pittsburgh, PA. This was my first time participating in this event.
The race is organized by Danny Chew; his web site contains a complete history of the race, the route, past results, etc.

I raced in the Sport class of The Big Valley Race (mountain bike race) held on the property of Camp Manatoc in Peninsula, Ohio.

After a long flight from Pittsburgh via Chicago and Seattle, I landed in Anchorage late in the evening on March 8, and met my friend Claire, who had arrived a couple of days earlier. We did some volunteer work with the Iditarod sled dog race.
When racers leave ailing dogs at checkpoints along the course, they are flown back to Anchorage. We helped unload them from the airplanes, then helped the veterinarians check them over.
